The Slab

The pouring of the slab started very early this morning with the entire slab being poured all before 10.30 this morning!
The kids were really keen for me to get a photo of the concrete pumper pouring the slab so after everyone was dropped off at school Erin and I went down to check things out, I just made it in time, this was the 2nd last truck to pour the concrete.

Some snapshots of the slab; this is the alfresco are and rumpus room in the background.

A picture of the troublesome pipe that nearly didn't make it!

View of the slab from the front of the house, it was twilight by the time DJ got down there to snap some photos on his iPad.  The concrete was barely touch dry, apparently Miss Erin jumped onto the slab and Luke also jumped on to get her off, DJ thinks that there might be some footprints on there when it dries tomorrow, LOL :-)

Waffle Pods and Reinforcement

The waffle pods and reinforcement went down today and with all things going well the slab will be poured this week, this is a photo of the garage.

This is the front porch, entrance way and at the top of the photo is Laura's bedroom, next to the neighbour's house that is getting bricked at the moment.

The missing pipe

The missing pipe was finally laid into the correct place today, the plastic was pulled back by the plumbers to ensure its correct position.  I am so grateful that DJ is so meticulous with checking the plans and being so precise about things.  It would have been dreadful for them to have to cut into the slab to put in this one pipe!  Way to go DJ :-)

Waffle Pods

The waffle pods for the slab were delivered today, which means one thing - the concrete will be poured very soon!  Things are moving along very quickly at the moment, we are all so grateful and excited.

The waffle pods will placed over the black plastic and then reinforced prior to the concrete slab being poured.

Slab construction begins

The concrete tradies arrived on the block today, creating the form work for the frame of the slab, unfortunately the missing pipe has still not been placed in the correct location and will be done prior to the pouring of the concrete slab - we hope!

More plumbing and the forgotten pipe

Great pick up by DJ last night about the pipe in the alfresco area, it seems that it has been missed and will be put in this week.  Further plumbing work continued today with more trenching digging and pipe laying.

This is the view from the centre of the house looking towards the street, these are the pipes for the kitchen area.

Plumbing

Plumbing work started today, lots of trench digging and laying of pipes.

This is a mammoth job, DJ actually noted that a pipe that we requested to be installed in the alfresco area didn't seem to be there, so he will be on the phone to the builder tomorrow to ensure that it hasn't been forgotten.

Our front garden tap was also installed today.

Cut into the ground!

"Any Day Now" has finally arrived! Our new home started today with the first cut in the land! Luke rode his bike to the block today and called me on my mobile to tell us that there was a huge back hoe on the block digging into the earth.  We jumped into the car and drove around, the kids were beside themselves with excitement  when we turned the corner and they saw the soil getting moved all about.

Erin had an absolute ball running around in the freshly cut ground right where her bedroom will be, she was extremely excited by the house next door and chasing Laura around.

Laura and Erin had to climb up the fence again, which seems to becoming a tradition each visit.

This is the view of the cut in the land from the back fence, and will be the back of the house, Jennie's bedroom and the rumpus room windows will look out into the backyard.

Here is a photo of Laura standing in her bedroom.

Here's Jennie in her bedroom.

Erin just gravitates to any mound of dirt and squeals with delight as she climbs to "the top of the big hill" as she likes to put it.

Today was a wonderful day filled with excitement and joy with the house finally starting after many months of planning, it sure has been a lesson in patience, especially for Jennie, Laura, Luke and Erin.

Builder's Sign

Today we visited the block again to see if there had been any movement, and the kids were so excited to see that the builder had put a sign up on our lot.  As they were all running around Miss Erin decided that she needed to go to the potty, I pulled it out of the car placed it on the ground and she did her required business.  I snapped a shot and thought it was pretty cute.  We then sent this photo to the builder with the message "When is my house starting? I need my own toilet please."  They thought it was very funny, and the great thing was that by the end of the day we actually were given an estimation of start date.

Cavalier Homes believes that they will have someone on site to cut the ground very soon, we are keeping our fingers crossed!
